Welcome aboard Kanau
Our boat is a 41-foot Morgan Out Island ketch, considered the definitive cruising and charter industry sailboat. It has two private staterooms, each with its own head (bathroom). Named Kanau, (pronounced Kah-NAH-ou) which means a dream realized, she has had extensive modernizations and upgrades, including a new Westerbeke diesel engine (2005), beautiful new oak, teak and mahogany interior, stereo system, cockpit shower, computerized navigation, watermaker, waterheater, 2500 watt inverter, autohelm, refrigeration, and the list goes on.
The comfortable and attractive main salon seats six for breakfast, lunch or dinner, or snacks and sippers. You'll find plenty of interesting books and magazines and a wide variety of music to listen to, from classical and jazz, to rock and roll, from Celtic to Carribbean, and lots of sailing music -- Jimmy Buffet to Eastport Oyster Boys. Sit and relax over a romantic, candlelit dinner, good conversation with no rude interruptions.
Kanau's galley boasts a stove, oven, microwave, full-size double sink, toaster, coffee maker, real wine glasses (not plastic as you'll find on most boats) and plenty of storage all hidden behind tambour doors and oversized drawers. Here is where First Mate Suzi (famed in song as Saltwater Suzi) will prepare many culinary delights and Captain Larry will prepare his world-famous omelettes, praised by people from France, Spain, South Africa, Canada, and the U.S., including some states considered foreign countries. World famous, I tell you.
The bar has a built-in freezer and refrigerator. We mix many standard drinks, including delicious Margaritas -- almost mandatory on a sailboat -- fine beer, pretty good wine, the Captain's favorite rum, as well as our signature specialty drink -- the 'almost famous' Blue Kanau. Of course, we serve soft drinks, excellent coffee (top-secret recipe which we'll tell you all about once you've tried it), and fruit drinks. If you notify us in advance, we'll make sure we have your favorite.
When you choose one of the overnight cruises, you'll sleep in the V-berth in the bow of the boat. There's room for your clothes and belongings (don't bring too much -- it's a boat, not the Hilton). There's a hatch overhead, four portlights to catch the breezes, and a door -- two, actually, to ensure your privacy. You'll also have your own private head (that's bathroom in sailor talk).
Harbinger Cruises operates out of Galesville, Maryland on the scenic Chesapeake Bay. Contact us for details.
